Subject Matter Expert
Hallie Brown recently completed her M.S. in Coastal Science and Policy at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where her research identified barriers and opportunities for Tribal-led shellfish and seaweed aquaculture in California. Hallie brings to Blue Stone, knowledge of sustainable shellfish and seaweed aquaculture and Tribally-led aquaculture, plus 4 years of experience working at the intersection of coastal conservation and Indigenous food sovereignty.
Hallie’s dedication to building healthier, more just communities led her to work for a Tribal health non-profit organization in Kodiak, Alaska, on a variety of food security, coastal resilience, and economic development projects. Recently, she has supported the restoration of coastal ecosystems using aquaculture and the strengthening Indigenous relationships with the coast up and down California, through roles at Moss Landing Marine Labs, the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, and the California Marine Sanctuary Foundation.
Hallie holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She lives on the unceded lands of the Awaswas-speaking Uypi Tribe, in what is now known as Santa Cruz, California.
