With 37 years of experience working in Indian Country, Emily is a seasoned professional writer, policy analyst, and communications strategist specializing in Federal-Indian policy, public relations, and community engagement. Her Capitol Hill career included staffing Members of Congress and serving as Legislative Director of the National Congress of American Indians. She subsequently spent more than two decades with the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, directing Government Affairs, Public Relations, and Communications while leading the Band’s Strategic Initiatives. Emily has authored hundreds of speeches, op-eds, and congressional testimony for Tribal and other leaders, and has facilitated strategic planning and community engagement for numerous Intertribal organizations and Tribal governments. She holds an MA in Tribal Administration and Governance from the University of Minnesota.
